Characteristics Of Stainless Steel Car Body
Stainless steel car body: the two main advantages of stainless steel make it suitable for bus body materials:
It has excellent corrosion and rust resistance, which saves the painting process of the car body outer
plate, and can greatly save maintenance costs.
Compared with ordinary steel, corrosion and anti-corrosion coating is not required, so the thickness
of the plate can be reduced, which is conducive to the lightweight of the car body, so as to save energy
and reduce exhaust emissions.
At present, there are two commonly used car body stainless steels: SUS304 and SUS301L of austenitic
stainless steel.
The stainless steel car body, like the carbon steel car body, is an integral load-bearing plate beam
structure. The main reason why stainless steel car body can realize lightweight is that it has high
strength. In this way, the thickness of plates can be greatly reduced. For example, the thickness of side
wall and roof outer plate is generally 1.0mm or 1.5mm, while that of carbon steel car body is generally
not less than 2.0mm; The corrugated plate of lightweight stainless steel car body is SUS301L-MT, and
the thickness is generally 0.6 mm, while the thickness of weathering steel corrugated plate is 1.6 mm.
The stainless steel car body has good corrosion resistance, so there is no need to thicken the plates for
corrosion resistance during design, and the external surface of the car body can maintain the natural
color and luster of the stainless steel material. Generally, there is no need to paint and repair the
surface, which can further reduce the car body quality. Generally, the material of side wall outer plate
should be subject to matting and passivation treatment. In addition, considering the beauty of the
vehicle, the outer surface of the vehicle body should be pasted with ribbon as decoration to increase
the dynamic feeling of the vehicle.
However, because the longitudinal elastic modulus of stainless steel material used for stainless steel car
body is only 0.85 of that of carbon steel, the stiffness of stainless steel car body at the same section is
lower than that of carbon steel car body. In addition, the thickness of plate and framework of stainless
steel car body is thinner than that of carbon steel car body, so the structure of stainless steel car body
at high stress areas such as door corner and window corner is not as easy to handle as that of carbon
steel, which should be noted in the application of stainless steel car body.
